Shepard's Story

Text size

Shepard Stacy Summerlin went home to the arms of Jesus on April 4, 2015, at the age of 7 months. Shepard was a gift from God who showed such strength and grace to everyone who knew him in his short life. He will be greatly missed by his many survivors: his parents, Lt. Mark Summerlin and Mary-Blake Harbin Summerlin; brother, John-Mark of Chula Vista, Ca.; paternal grandparents, Terry and Pat Summerlin of Mt. Olive; maternal grandparents, Dr. Stacy and Kaye Harbin of Marianna, Fla.; great grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Garbett of Thomasville, Ga., Mrs. Ann C. Summerlin of Chickasaw, Mrs. Billie Harbin Bates of Coolidge, Ga.; and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins as well as all the Navy and church families in the community where Shepard lived. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Shepard's honor to The Ronald McDonald House Charities and/or RCHSD Foundation-HOPES, with “Shepard Summerlin” in the memo section, mailed to 3020 Children's Way, San Diego, Calif., 92123.  (HOPES stands for Hem-Onc Parents Extending Support). A memorial service will be held Thursday at Glen Abbey Memorial Park in Bonita, Calif. Graveside services will be held in Thomasville, Ga., Laurel Hill Cemetery, on Sunday, April 12 at 2 p.m. Whiddon-Shiver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. (229) 226-5621.
